OptiFiber® Pile Cloth Media
OptiFiber® pile cloth media have been specially developed for water and wastewater filtration. The pile cloth media combines high removal efficiency, efficient backwash capability and long-term stability. OptiFiber® are cloths with a multi-dimensional structure, consisting of a filter-active pile layer and a non-filter-active backing. The backing, made of continuous filaments with large flow-relevant pores, serves as a carrier for the pile layer. The pile layer is woven into the backing and consists of multiple filaments or fibers.
Pile cloth media can be defined by the height of the straightened pile fibers [mm], the diameter of the individual filaments/fibers [µm], the specific surface area of the pile fibers [m²/m²], the weight per unit area of the pile fabric [g/m²], the size of the flow-relevant pores [μm] and the open area [%] of the backing fabric. A statement about the filter performance and long-term stability can only be made through many years of experience in using pile fabrics for various applications. The interaction of the individual parameters abstracts the pore structure of the pile layer. A defined pore size for pile fabrics or the pile layer does not exist by definition.
Key Information
- Swiss engineering 100% produced in Germany
- Non-metallic fabric construction for longevity
- Fiber discharge is constructively excluded by weaving and fixing in the backing
- High solids holding capacity and excellent backwash capability due to three-dimensional fabric structure minimise energy demand and backwash water volume
- Open backing with large flow-relevant pores > 800 x 800 µm minimises the potential for fouling
- No chemical cleaning required though it could be possible
- High mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance. Constant performance even after > 500,000 cleaning cycles (MecanaAqua Endurance Test)
- Service life of OptiFiber® on average 5 – 8 years, application-specific up to > 12 years
- «Title 22» approved and tested up to a filter speed of 54 m/h
- Available for drinking water applications
- Strict quality assurance through control from raw material to end product, retention samples, endurance test and serial numbers for traceability
OptiFiber® Family
Different OptiFiber are available for different applications. The pile fibers are made from polyester or polyamide. They enable a unique separation behaviour for the retention of sludge flakes, particulate phosphorus, (very fine) powdered activated carbon, algae, helminth eggs, tyre abrasion, microplastics and many others. An abundance of individual fibers provides a large specific surface area. Our OptiFiber family can be divided into three groups:
